BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – The Brazos Valley Coalition on Suicide Prevention has just been named the best suicide prevention council in the state of Texas for 2022. It’s an award that BVCOSP President Doug Vance hopes the help expand their mission in the future.
Vance thanks his team members for the recognition.
“The team members I work with are the best I have ever worked with. They are amazing. They are passionate. They care so much,” Vance said.
BVCOSP was established only three years ago, but has achieved more than expected in such a short time.
“To go from nothing to the best in the State of Texas in such a short time is quite an honor. I want the people of this community, across the Brazos Valley, to know that they have an organization that is here to help them,” Vance said.
Vance says that while suicide prevention is an emotionally draining issue, he and his team agree it’s worth fighting for.
“Seeing someone who was suicidal, who had no hope, all of a sudden having hope. They have a new direction in life. They now have a skill set, where if something comes up later in life, they can handle it. They can choose life over death. They can choose hope over despair,” Vance said.
